One big part of someone’s life is his or her wedding day.  Usually it is made out to be the bride’s special day.  Although it is, don’t forget it is special to the groom as well.  There are all kinds of things that make that day special.One part of a wedding that is not always given attention to is the photographer.

Their part in making that day memorable is a huge one.  I know for a fact from my first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer.Because the main job of a photographer is to capture that event.Those moments should be taken and captured in a photograph.The photos would be the way to remember the events that happened on that fateful day. And only a photograph can capture those memorable events.

What other things can a photographer contribute?  They contribute to turning that wedding day into a story.  A well thought out photo shoot can make a wedding album come alive.Beautifully timed photographs would make a photo album like a beautiful story of two loving persons.Shots that are taken or captured well should be able to tell the events to a person who wasn’t able to attend the wedding just by looking at the pictures.  So with that in mind you need a San Diego photographer who can really accomplish that type of job.But you must also decide if that is what you really want.All of us can just use our cameras then point and click.But you want an artistic photographer that would give you pictures that everyone you would show it with would enjoy it.

When most brides and grooms make wedding day plans, they take certain things into consideration. They think about vacation times when trying to coordinate. Or they plan the day according to the best time for family to come into town.  Or they plan it based upon maybe available venues, like the church or the restaurant.

But one of the biggest things they fail to plan for on the wedding day is the photographer. Don’t think this is something small.  And I am not just saying it because I am a wedding photographer

No planning the wedding day with the wedding photographer in mind could mean all the difference in the world. Especially when you think about the fact the photos are going to be the thing that captures that day for a lifetime.

So what are the key factors to consider when planning with the photographer in mind. The date and time.

Let’s start with the time.  How many people do you think would want their photographer to rush taking the photos? I am pretty confident most couples will not agree to that. 

Without even considering your photographer, a majority of the times most couples do just that. The couple or family basically rush the photographer to try and take all the pictures. 

How so you ask? Well let’s say, the couple makes the ceremony between 1-2 pm. With the reception beginning at 2:30. How many shots can a photographer make when he only has a half hour to work with?  Not many.

Worse yet, what if he does get all the shots? Do you think they are going to take good quality shots when they are rushed?  Of course not.

So plan the wedding times and the receptions accordingly making sure there is ample time to take photos.

The second factor to consider when planning is to check your photographer’s availability.

Most probably don’t realize this, but most good photographers will be booked months in advance. Let’s say you are dealing with a large photography company, they probably have a few photographers.

Well making wedding plans without thinking about the availability of the photographer could be a nightmare. Because when you reserve that special day, without making sure your photographer is available, come wedding day you might get a shock when you find somebody totally different.

This scenario happens when you are dealing with a big company. You may not even realize that they have a staff of photographers and if the photographer you liked is booked, unless you ask, they might not tell you.  When your wedding day comes, they might just outsource their work or a second rate photographer might show up.

In this current time period of digital cameras, you probably think all you need to do is point and click to take great photos.Hold on, don’t go so fast.  The truth is you can have the top of the line digital camera, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you will take lousy shots.

I would love to give you some good tips to help you improve your photography skills.  These tips are coming from years of experience as a San Diego wedding photographer.These tips are all about the lighting and they will some of biggest reasons for you success in taking photographs.

First tip you will use in regards to lighting.Now if the shots you will take are going to be outdoors during the day, the natural sunlight will be some of the best lighting possible.  Now you are probably thinking, “that’s easy, when you are a San Diego photographer since it is always shiny there”, when in actuality really bright sunlight can cast harsh shadows.  Or it can wash out the details in faces if the sun is overhead.

Overall, you are going to want to take most of the shots with the sun behind you.This stops any harsh shadows in your photo caused by the sun.But there will be those times and instances when you want different angles to get those shadows into the shots.

Now that we know what to do during the day shots, what if you have to take some night shots? 

The key technique for night photos is actually turning off your flash.Now if it is pictch black, of course you will need it, but if there are some lighting, use it, but make sure the shutter speeds are slower to let the light in.Also, stay steady when you are taking your photograph or you will cause the picture to blur.Applying these couple of techniques will make a dramatic difference for those nights shots you take. 

The final tips to using lighting for great shots is using the golden hour.Now there is a time that photographers refer to as the “golden hour” or “magic hour”, and that is during sunrise and sunset.

It is during this time of day when you will capture great shots that capture more warmer colors.  You will be able to capture that golden lighting you won’t catch any other time of day.

There you have it.Probably the biggest secret in taking great photographs is taking advantage of the natural lighting.  Knowing what techniques to use for different parts of the day, or just scheduling a photo shoots to capture those times of day will help you become an excellent photographer.

Probably all of the list of things to do in wedding planning are frustrating, stressful, and time consuming. From my experience as a San Diego wedding photographer I’ll show you it can be a few simple steps away.

Finding a wedding photographer is a big job. There are a few important factors to think about when you make this important decision. The photographs that you get from your wedding day will be some of the most memorable moments that you. The photos will be all over your walls for the rest of yourlife. One of the important factors when trying to find a photographer is price. Many photographers will charge a price for a certain length of time at the wedding. It is important to know up front what all is included with that
price. When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, the biggest upside to pricing is there is a lot of competition. Don’t forget, a lot of photographers will negotiate their price to fit what you need.

Another thing to take into account when deciding is how much experience does this person have. Is this their first wedding or their hundredth? Their price might be an indication of how many years they have been in business as well. Just because someone is experienced, doesn’t always translate into being a better photographer. A lot times people that are just starting out and are trying to build a reputation for themselves will turn out to be great. When you are asked to be the one to take photos of the wedding is a huge responsibility.If you are doing it as a favor, or if you are doing it as your profession, following these 5 tips will help you do the job right.

This tips are coming from first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer.  So whether you are seasoned pro, or a rank amateur, if you follow these tips, you will feel comfortable and not have to second guess yourself.  You will be fully prepared for whatever may come.

Our first tip is pretty simple and that is to have the couple and their families make a list for you of shots they want to take.When you know the day will be hectic and chaotic, doing this will help you get the family and group shots later on in the day more smoothly.You will love how you can just go through your list and get all the shots you want without leaving anything out.

The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots.  In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do.Don’t bother even peeking at the previews.  What makes a great shot in your mind could differ widely that what makes a great shot in the couples minds.You know what, they might like all those un “professional” shots you take.

For the the third tip, make sure you get candid shots during and after the wedding.A good wedding photographer doesn’t look to just take your typical shots, like group shots, or wedding shots or your standard newly married shots.  But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there.  And that includes some of the things that could go wrong, like a flower girl not making it all the way to the front, or the ring bearer dropping the rings.  Every shot counts.

The fourth tip is which is often overlooked is to make sure you have several cameras and other equipment as backup.  Do you even want to imagine having a camera stop working halfway through the day.  Plan for anything that could go wrong.  Being prepared will help you avoid that uncomfortable moment of not having a working camera to capture the rest of the day.

Lastly, make sure to practice for your lighting. There can be a huge difference between the lighting inside the wedding and outside, so make sure to practice for all the different possible conditions. Think about seeing if you can go to the locations of the big day and look for the best spots to take pictures as well as study the lighting needs.

 When you are hired to be the main photographer for a portrait event it is quite an honor. For a professional photographer, we can sometimes just see it as another “gig”. But it pays to look at the event through the eyes of the people attending, the parents, the siblings, the groom and above all the bride. For the bride especially, there is nothing routine about this day. Everything is personal and getting the best possible photos of this important day could not be more personal and important to her and her family and her groom as well.
 
 So, if you are deciding to expand your horizons into or setting out on building your photography business to include wedding photography, you should plan to approach this task much differently than any other form of photography. You are doing a lot more than taking a few snapshots of an event. You are as much an integral part of the ceremony and the significance of that day for this bride and this groom as the minister or perhaps even many of the wedding guests.
 
 So what can you do to make sure the wedding photographs you create capture not only the events of this day but the emotions and the spiritual importance of it as well? The key is to know the hearts and minds of the people who are involved in the event. That means, get involved early and be involved often.
 
 For most weddings, the planning process starts very soon. If you get hired to be the wedding photographer, it is not too early to meet the that early also. To be a skilled wedding photographer, you should also have a bit of the investigative journalist, the amateur psychologist and the psychic in you as well.
 
 Your photographs will capture not only the images of the event but also the souls of the attendees. So get to know each of the key players individually. This certainly includes the bride and groom but a similar level of familiarity is appropriate for the wedding party, the parents of the bride and groom and their best friends too.
 
 There are some subtle ways you can learn the hearts of these people so you can plan to get photographs that will be ones the each person will say, “I am saving that one forever.” Here are some suggestions…
 
 . Get to meet the people in charge of the wedding details. But more than that, find out how the bride and significant decisions makers view colors. Watch how they dress and show them examples of wedding photographs and listen to their reactions. You can plan the how to stage your pictures accordingly.
 
 . Every bride has that perfect romantic setting in their heart. If you can discover that hidden treasure, you may be able to frame a special wedding photo just to fit that dream. Perhaps she there is a public gardens in the city that has a fountain that she has loved since she was a child. If so you can make arrangements to have the wedding party meet out there when the lighting is just right in full dress and get some wedding photos that will be in her heart forever.
 
 . Don’t forget the groom. Maybe he would love to have a fun photo showing him and the bride on his Harley. Or if he is a big sports fan, getting a photo dressed out in team regalia at some other time than the wedding can be a fun addition to the portfolio. And it will mean a lot to him too.

For most events in our lives, a cheap camera is sufficient to record what is important for posterity. But some things like weddings are, hopefully, once in a lifetime, and worth paying more to have it photographed right. So from the myriad of choices how should one go about selecting which photographer to hire? Here are seven principles that will aid in that choice.

1. Availability. If you are wealthy, you may be able to hire the best New York photographer to capture your California wedding. However, most people will want to hire someone more locally, someone whose transportation costs will be more reasonable. For example, a couple in Virginia would choose someone specializing in Virginia Beach wedding photography. Also, since photographers are especially busy on Saturdays, will he/she be available on your big day?

2. Skill. Photographing a wedding is much more than just setting up various shots and clicking. It will involve good equipment, good lighting, and expert skill. Of course the pictures will probably be digital. What pixel range will they use for the pictures? Generally the more pixels, the better the resolution but also the larger the file size. Then find out what the company’s reputation is? What do others say about their skill in taking wedding pictures? Are samples from other weddings available?

3. Personality. What would it be like to work with them? Are they pushy, trying to get you to choose their most expensive package, or do they present the options and let you decide? Would they tend to take over or fit in? How are they in working with children?

4. Price. The average cost of a wedding in the U.S. now is over $20,000. Though you don’t want to blow your budget on pictures, you do want the quality of a professional. What is your maximum budget for pictures? Do they have options within this amount that include all you have in mind?

5. Service. How quickly are the pictures available? Some will even display the wedding pictures during the reception. That is a nice touch. How quickly can prints be made? How available will they be to others on the web or on CD, and how soon?

6. Options. A wide variety of options should be available. For example, if you so desire, is the photographer available during the rehearsal? Are they willing and available when you want the main photographic event to take place? Are they OK letting relatives take their own pictures while they are setting up shots? What creative suggestions do they offer? Can others print pictures off their website?

7. Integrity. What is their reputation about keeping their promises and delivering what they say? Will they be in place when needed and stay as long as you expect? Will all the parts of the package you chose be delivered as you expect?

A wedding is too important to rely on an amateur to do an adequate job. Consider these points as you plan your special day and, chances are, you won’t be disappointed with the result. Digital Wedding Photography – 7 Ways to get the Best

Digital cameras offer consumers and professional photographers an almost infallible method of capturing hundreds of images from a wedding day. Unfortunately there are some common mistakes or oversights that allow a photographer to miss opportunities or get into some trouble when using their cameras to take digital wedding photography.

Below are seven tips to use when planning any sort of digital wedding photography, and while some are “common sense” they have made the list because they are often issues that are simply overlooked.

1. Bring a backup battery – while this may seem like a “no brainer” the sad fact is that many amateur or first time photographers forget just how quickly their camera’s battery can fade when taking photo after photo. This is especially true for photographers who must use their LCD screen to compose and review their shots. If at all possible take spare batteries that are fully charged and keep them with you at all times!

2. Shut off the sound – there is no bride, groom, wedding party or guest who enjoys hearing any distracting “beeps” or “boops” while trying to enjoy a wedding ceremony. While many weddings will not allow flash photography, a thoughtful photographer could use ambient lighting along with their camera’s settings to get good pictures of the ceremony, but even without using the flash they may still be annoying if the camera is making noises.

3. Going RAW – if a camera allows RAW, it can be a fantastic way to get some of the best digital wedding shots possible. This setting requires a very large amount of memory, but it allows for much more flexibility and can make the difference between several great photos of the ceremony and none at all!

4. Continuous shooting – digital wedding photography requires that many pictures are taken quite quickly and the refresh time on many cameras is just too slow for the speed required. If you are able, set the camera to “continuous” mode.

5. Using the zoom – one of the brilliant things about digital wedding photography is that the equipment is often very small but loaded with fantastic capabilities. For example, a photographer can catch the small details, like rings, intimate moments and even flowers with the powerful zoom lenses installed in most cameras.

6. Have a backup? – most digital wedding photography asks a lot of the flash, battery and memory of a camera. If a photographer has extra memory cards, batteries or even a second camera it is really advisable to bring it all to such a significant event as a wedding.

7. Understand the flash – during those times when flash photography is acceptable, an image can be enhanced by the use of “flash fill” and digital wedding photography allows this to be easily done. The camera can detect, even in the noon sun if the image will be better using a flash, and this should be used to ensure you get the best images.
